Summer fun in the sun is in full swing.
In Maine we like to take advantage of every minute
of the sunny, warm weather...but sometimes
the thermometer creeps up beyond the comfortable mark.
Here are our top 10 tips for keeping cool in the summer heat!
OPEN IT OR CLOSE IT
Close windows and window coverings during the sunny portion of the day to keep out the heat.
Open up the windows and window coverings in the evening when the air cools down.
TURN IT AROUND
If the air in your house is warmer that the air outside, turn your window fan around
to blow the hot air out of the house.
HEAD DOWNSTAIRS
Spend time in the lowest level of your home. Since heat rises
it is usually the coolest on the lowest level.
ON OR OFF
Turn off lights and appliances that produce heat such as you dryer, dishwasher and computers.
COOK OUT
Grill out instead of using your stove or oven.

POOR MAN'S AC
Put a bowl of ice cubes in front of a fan...as the ice melts and cools the air,
the fan will circulate the cooler air.
HAND HELD COOLING
Freeze bottles of water to take with you when you go outside.
The ice will melt so you can drink the water and the water will stay cold longer.
SPRITZER
Keep a spray bottle of water in the refrigerator and
spray your face when you come in from outdoors.
TOWEL OFF
Soak a towel in cool water and put it on the back of your neck to cool off quickly.
HAVE A TREAT
Have a Popsicle or chew ice cubes
